    The Pink Angels

    Pink angels on the beach
Newburyport resident Pat Greeley is an inspiration.  As part of the Pink Angels she has helped to raise over a Million dollars for cancer research. Pat lost her sister to breast cancer and her sister's brave battle against the disease pushed her to involve herself in being part of the cure.  The Pink Angels has more than 60 members, some are survivors, some walk in memory of loved ones, like Pat.
Newburyport Today caught up with the Pink Angles during one of their training walks (in preparation fo the 3 Day upcoming on July 24th). We visited with them during their lunch break at Joppa Flats. The power and commitment of the group was apparent, as Pat said, "In the short time you were with us, I’m not sure you could understand or feel the bond between us, but I do hope you did 'feel' a little bit of our good vibes."  We certainly did.
The group has been together since 2005 and has members from all over the North Shore. Each group member commits to raising at least $2,300.00 --- The money is raised through a letter writing campaign, yard and bake sales, and a comedy night.
We hope that you will consider making a donation to this amazing group.  Click HERE

From the Driver's Seat - Newburyport Pedicab Musings

Newburyport Today is pleased to be able to bring our reader's the comments and observations of Newburyport Pedicab driver Paul Kelly.  This is Paul's 3rd season, and he has been kind enough to agree to share his experiences with us.  For more information on Paul read his bio here, for more information on Newburyport Pedicabs click here

Bday_woman_0257b What are memories made of? Perhaps you remember the sunshine? Friday was one of the rare of late, one out of four sunshine days – and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The drivers of Newburyport Pedicab had a scheduled ride Friday evening, another birthday celebration – seems pedicabs are becoming a popular way to observe special birthday crossings.
This time, not only were we giving two sisters a ride,
but also many of their family and friends.
Flat_0220b So many people that we needed the whole pedicab train, all five cabs!  As luck would have it, when we arrived at the garage to make preparations for the ride, we found one of the tires flat. Fortunately, we had just time enough for a quick repair.
On_station_0237b At last we are heading out for the pickup – empty cabs make for a
leisurely ride for the drivers – and arrive on schedule to await “on station” at the Joppa Flats boat ramp.
It’s time for our birthday party to climb aboard and settle in, and then we are underway for an “off the beaten path” tour of Newburyport. Frequently, passengers will ask for a 'locals' tour, or to be taken on a ride filled with sights that a traditional commercial tour doesn't cover.
All_board_0243b Friday's ride was the perfect opportunity to do just that. Our passengers requested a stroll through Newburyport's South End to observe the famous window boxes on the historic homes. We injected a bit of personal history knowledge and made sure all of the stops were covered!
Underway_0252b Our eventual destination was the waterfront boardwalk – the birthday
celebration continued with a sailing on the Ninth Wave catamaran! A pleasant close to what will be a beautiful and memorable experience.
But perhaps for some of us the strongest memories are visual. While cruising for riders on the foggy Saturday afternoon that followed our sunshine
Fishing_girl_0268b Friday, I came across this young girl out fishing with her family. The sight reminded me of the times that I took my own daughter fishing. Bound and determined to get that fish! Enjoy the upcoming Independence Day holiday. I hope that it will be a safe, pleasant, and memorable time for all.

    -Paul

Paul Kelly spends some of his free time pedaling at Newburyport
Pedicab where all profits are donated to the Pan-Mass Challenge. To schedule a ride with Paul, call 978-465-1496.
